Q-2: What the impact does the disaster have on the environment and the people?
As a consequence of the cyanide leaking into the Tisza, one of the region’s main waterways, the drinking water supplies were contaminated and 80% of the fish in the river were poisoned and died due to the deadly chemicals.
As the cyanide travelled down the Tisza River, it wiped out numerous plants and animal life. Signs had been posted by the river bank in northern Serbia, warning locals to stay away from the Tisza and not to fish or swim in its waters, while emergency teams had been removing the dead fish from the river by hand.

The leak of cyanide had a disastrous impact on several people. It affected various jobs and a few jobs were also lost. People in the fishing business lost their jobs and the tourism industry suffered severely as tourists cancelled their holidays. Restaurants in northern Serbia had to remove fish from their menus to a lot of customers’ disappointment. It also caused a problem for the locals’ daily hobbies like, swimming and fishing.
The poison also had a great impact on the rivers ecosystem as well as humans. Animals that were hibernating would not have food when they wake up from hibernation, because of the poisonous leak. This is a picture of the Tisza
